How Reverse Osmosis Works

Reverse Osmosis is the process of the transfer of fluid like the water above from one side of a semi-permeable membrane to another while leaving behind dissolved solids like the salt example.  By applying pressure we can speed up the process such that it becomes economically efficient to utilize.  RO is used in many industries such as water treatment (water purification), dairy (whey separation) and medical (kidney dialysis) to name a few.  Our use of RO is limited to waste antifreeze recycling but the principles are still the same as the RO process used to purify salt water for drinking.
